Conservative campaign off to "flying start"
The Conservative election campaign was officially launched on Saturday, with Adrian Owens telling a gathering of local activists in Ormskirk that the Conservative campaign had got off to “a flying start”.
Adrian said in his rallying speech to local activists,"We’ve delivered more than 15,000 leaflets in just two days; had two shadow cabinet visits and posters going up around the constituency. Nationally too, we are the party making the weather: From our plans to stop the national insurance rise, to the national community service idea; to recognising marriage in the tax system. All we get from Labour meanwhile is an attempt to rig the electoral system under the veneer of constitutional reform; a plea for all Lib Dems to vote tactically for Labour and a parliamentary candidate who calls older people 'coffin dodgers'.
We’ve started as we mean to go on. We have a further 26 days to make our case and to bring change to this country."
Following the campaign launch, Conservatives moved to Ormskirk town centre to urge shoppers to support a Conservative campaign to provide more cancer treating drugs on the NHS.
