Adrian reacts to General Election result and the new coalition government
Adrian has commented on the election result in West Lancashire
and on the prospects for the new coalition government.
Adrian said: "I am pleased that we fought a hard, positive campaign based on the issues that local people care about. As a result, we increased our vote by almost 3000 to the highest ever under the current constituency boundaries, increased our share of the vote and substantially cut Labour's majority. Labour ran an entirely negative campaign based on untruths and distortions and fostered anxiety and even fear among voters. Unfortunately this did have an effect, but longer term will be shown up for the desperate ploy it was.
"I've worked hard since being selected as the candidate three years ago, and will be having a well-earned rest with my family over the next few weeks. Any decision on future Parliamentary candidate selections is a matter for the Conservative Association, but I shall be remaining active on the Borough Council as a councillor in Derby Ward and will continue working with party colleagues to deliver quality, affordable services to local people." Adrian is pleased that a Conservative-led government has been formed. "Whatever doubts people may have or concerns about the compromises made, this Government is already proving so much better than one led by Labour. Whether it lasts five years or not, the coalition government is already getting to grips with the dire state of the country's finances and the sweeping away of bureaucratic planning rules and compulsory ID cards is a breath of fresh air."
