Keep your promise - MP urged

Rosie Cooper has been urged by Adrian Owens to keep her manifesto promise and vote for a referendum on the EU Constitution when it is voted on by MPs next week.

Adrian said “The current standing of MPs has already fallen, but the reputation of Ms Cooper will plumb new depths if she fails to keep the promise she made in her manifesto to West Lancashire residents less than 3 years ago.”

“It’s encouraging to hear that already around 30 of Rosie Cooper’s Labour colleagues are prepared to resist the pressure of Government whips and keep their promise. I hope that Ms Cooper will join them.”

Adrian continued “I want to become a Member of Parliament to serve the people of West Lancashire. For that to mean anything, Parliament must have sufficient powers. Currently MPs are impotent when faced with 70% of legislation which arises from the unelected European Commission, that’s why I want powers brought back from Europe to Westminster.”

“This treaty will transfer further powers to Brussels in the fields of immigration, energy and criminal justice. Crucially though it will also permit the government, in the future to transfer powers to Europe without the consent of MPs. This is an attack on Parliamentary sovereignty itself. For that reason alone Ms Cooper should vote for a referendum next week.”
