ADRIAN OWENS - Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, West Lancashire

Rail Progress at last... but painfully slow

Speaking after the publication of Network Rail’s Rail Utilisation Strategy for Lancashire and Cumbria, Adrian Owens today welcomed news that a new hourly rail service will be introduced between Ormskirk and Preston.

Adrian said “Some track and signalling improvements are needed before the hourly service can be introduced. However Network Rail seem committed to the improvement, not least because it is financially advantageous.”

Adrian added that he was disappointed though that plans for reinstating the Burscough Curves had been pushed back to after 2014. “Given the poor road links and hospital configuration, we need an improved Ormskirk-Southport rail link and I will continue to make the case for that.”
