Victory in court battle

Local justice is safe for now says the councillor who led the council opposition to government plans to merge Ormskirk Magistrates’ Court with the courts in Chorley and South Ribble, following news that the Government has dropped the plans.

Councillor Adrian Owens who persuaded the district council to oppose the court merger plans at a council meeting in July says “I’m absolutely delighted that the Government have seen sense and retreated from their ill-considered merger proposals. This is a victory for the united stand taken by local magistrates and the Conservative-led district council. It’s just a shame that the Government was so out of touch with local feeling to make these proposals in the first place.”
