shadow minister accepts adrian's invitiation to discuss concerns with west lancashire farmers
Jim Paice MP, the Shadow Agriculture Minister visited West Lancashire last Wednesday for talks with local farmers.
Mr Paice, who was invited to West Lancashire by Adrian Owens, the area’s Conservative General Election candidate, met a group of dairy farmers in Bispham before holding a round table discussion with farmers and representatives of the National Farmers’ Union in Skelmersdale.
Speaking after the event, Mr Paice said “I spend a good deal of time away from London so that I can hear first hand from as many farmers as possible. My visit to West Lancashire was very valuable as we finalise our policies for the environment, food and rural affairs section of our manifesto.”
Adrian said, “I found it particularly sobering to hear of the financial difficulties faced by local dairy farmers. Government cannot provide all the answers, but it can help to frame an environment in which farming flourishes. Farmers tend the beautiful countryside we all enjoy in West Lancashire. It is vital that they can achieve a secure economic future.”
